Wollongong first-time film maker, Georgia Matts surf-movie premiere at Towradgi Beach Hotel, sponsored by Carabine Surf Designs, Veiga Eyewear and Wyza Surf Co.

This movie captures the story of her two incredibly talented best friends, who together travel up and down the coast of New South Wales surfing and filming their adventures. The film captures the hardships faced by the two extremely passionate female athletes.

As an eight-year old Sarah Baum (featured in the film) was identified as one of South Africa's surfing stars gained sponsorship by 'Roxy'. The sponsorship only ended when Baum turned 20 and moved to Australia to live with her partner Skye Burgess.

"The aim of this movie is to show of their abilities" - Matts said.

Why?

Because the women's surfing scene is about marketability and until recently the way women surf and their talent is not of as high of a pre-requisite as their physical looks and sex appeal. They are more often than not treated as a bikini model rather than an athlete. "Somehow being a surfer is second to being hot".

There aren't many female surf movies out at the moment, but when they are made, the focus is on their bikinis and lifestyle rather than their undoubted talent in the surf. And this is where Georgia's film is different...

It cost Georgia a lot of money to make this film, she got robbed twice, some $30000 worth of gear was stolen, but despite filming being difficult it's not about the money. It's about her friends.

Towradgi Beach Hotel will be premiering the film in the Sports Bar - Sunday the 25th of June. Doors open at 5pm and the Movie will begin at 6pm.

This premiere will assist Georgia in taking her film overseas to the New York, where it will be premiered internationally August 11-12.
