Since its inception last year, Melbourne's very own music summit CHANGES is back for another year. This year's event, which runs from July 3 to 4 from its new headquarters at Abbotsford Convent will include over 140 speakers and 100 plus artists performing at 10 venues around Fitzroy.

With CHANGES only a week away and such a diverse lineup of artists performing, we've selected a few acts you should consider checking out if you're heading along.

ABBOTSFORD CONVENT, VIC

Ajak Kwai

Ajak Kwai is one musician with such an important and inspiring voice, using her music as a vehicle to talk about her upbringing and life experiences as a refugee, exiled from her home and family. Her music is deeply rooted in her South Sudanese heritage, infusing funky and soulful afro-beats, singing in a mix of Arabic, Sudanese and English.

Eliza Hull

Eliza Hull is an artist causing quite a stir not only in the local scene but around the world, supporting the likes of Katie Noonan and Mia Dyson. Her songs are filled with haunting vocals and captivating soundscapes.

Eliza is also an incredible advocate for artists living with a disability, encouraging more diversity in Australia's music scene.

Eliza will be performing in the Regional Showcase at The Shady Lady on Wednesday, July 3.

Alice Sky

Alice Skye is a singer-songwriter whose songs send a haunting beautiful shiver up your back. Now based in Melbourne, Alice grew up in the Grampians in country Victoria, and her songwriting often reflects the calming mountain landscape that she calls home.

Alice performs in the Still Here Showcase at The Evelyn Hotel on Wednesday, July 3.

Ryan Downey

His voice has been described as a jaw-dropping amalgamation of Leonard Cohen and Bill Callahan by way of some mid-century crooner. So there's no doubt the sheer talent that Ryan Downey brings to the table.

His signature blend of rock, pop and folk is carried throughout his ever-growing repertoire with an alternating focus on themes of humour and pathos, self-analysis, sex, love and modern life.

Ryan performs at The Old Bar on Wednesday, July 3 for Barely Dressed Records Showcase.

Kwasi

Kwasi, born Benjamin Karikari-Yeboah grew up in a small country town in Victoria. He's a huge Dr Dre fan, with Dr Dre's 2001 inspiring the rapper/producer to start writing raps with his sister. Upon moving to Melbourne in 2009 Kwasi's truly found his feet in the music world and has already supported the likes of Grammy-winning Australian producer M-Phazes, Yelawolf, 360 and Hopsin.

Makeda

Makeda is an artist who oscillates between aural, physical and curatorial practice, including music, installation/performance art, radio and design, pairing left-field electronic alongside socio-political criticism. She has performed locally and internationally including Dark Mofo, RVNG International's 'Commend' store and the Cite Internationale des Arts. Makeda has also performed alongside a diverse range of artists including Klein, Oscar Key Sung and Elysia Crampton.

Catch Makeda at The Night Cat on Thursday, July 4 as she performs as part of the PBS and RRR Showcase.

Cry Club

Cry Club are relatively new to the scene, forming in January 2018. Despite being newbies, this hasn't stopped the two-piece queer pop band from absolutely killing it. They've played shows with the likes of RAAVE TAPES, Moaning Lisa and Bec Sandridge as well as making an appearance at Yours and Owls Festival and BIGSOUND. Their music itself is remarkably powerful and empowering with a post-punk-pop flare, giving the queer community yet another strong voice in the music industry.

SPOD

An indie/electro band hailing from Sydney's Inner West. The music created by SPOD has always packed a punch. Evolving into a one-man show in the early 2000s, SPOD has really come along way, fusing indie sounds with electronic beats synonymous with the musical landscape at the time.

SPOD performs at The Fitz on Wednesday 3 July for the Rice is Nice Showcase.

Good Morning

Good Morning, Good Night, it's all the same thing when it comes to Melbourne duo Good Morning. Their music is tailored towards "people who sleep in past noon, roll out of bed in one sock and the jeans they wore the night before, surrounded by scribbles on scrap pieces of paper and empty cups of tea". Stefan Blair and Liam Parsons started making music together in high school, perfecting their sound over the years which is reminiscent of the likes of Mac Demarco and John Lennon. Think stunning guitar chords mixed with dreamy vocals and a dash of psychedelia and pop.

LANEOUS

Lachlan Mitchell aka Laneous is a self-taught prodigy, emerging from Brisbane's bustling music-art scene in 2008. He's certainly high up on our top played playlist, that's for sure! Lachlan's unique ability to blend a multitude of genres together to create a completely unique sound is what makes the world-class guitarist, vocalist, composer and visual artist one to watch.

Catch Laneous at the Foreign Brothers + Soul Has No Tempo Showcase on Thursday, July 4 at The Evelyn Hotel.
